Heart in Valentine's Day press releases

Valentine’s Day: an excuse for terrible press releases?

It would appear that Valentine’s Day is not a celebration of love – or words – in many press releases. It’s a chance to find an incredibly tenuous link to ‘love’ in order to promote your products.

There have been some real shockers over the years, and we’ve compiled a few from recent days just to show how bad they can be.

Let’s start with this one (which is actually from 2014), which we’ve copied in full. Now, the company can be forgiven for a few translation errors, but this is incredibly poor English for a press release. Google Translate would have done a little better. But it’s a classic way to try and promote a tenuous Valentine’s connection for young male gamers.  You be the judge, if you can make it to the end without sniggering:

Poor gamer press release

Already this year (2015) there have been some incredibly cheesy press releases, and companies like to get in on the act early. Late in January we had this one from a firm that makes sun protection clothing:

Valentine’s Day ‘Protection’ She Will Love

The classic question: “How much do you love me?” Response: “I love you from head to toe.” SPF Addict, manufacturer of high-quality, California-made sun protective clothing for the family, offers him unique ways to show how much he truly loves her by protecting her from ‘head to toe’ this Valentine’s Day.

“As a Registered Nurse who has treated countless patients with sun damaged skin, I would love to see everyone shower their Valentine in protection… SPF protection that is,” says SPF Addict’s president and designer Marina Arnold, R.N.

Yuck! Cheesemungous. Or how about this romance killer from a storage company:

KiO Storage Extends Their New Year’s Sale Through Valentine’s Day to Encourage People to Give the Gift of Organization Instead of Clutter

KiO Storage is a revolutionary shelving and storage system that is lightweight, durable, and easy to install, and they’re on a mission to make 2015 the year of organization. KiO stands for ‘Keep It Organized’, the company is happy to extend their New Year’s Sale through the end of February 2015 to encourage people to gift their loved ones around Valentine’s day with useful organization tools, such as their storage organizer kits, rather than cheap chocolate and short-lived flowers.

I suspect the MD of that company has had a divorce or two… Finally for this year, how about the idea that you really shouldn’t be showering alone on Valentine’s day – and certainly not showering alone in non-filtered water.

National Shower with a Friend Day! Brought to you by New Wave Enviro Products!

Winter is the coldest and loneliest season of the year. With dwindling daylight andValentine’s Day at its heart, February can often leave people feeling somber.  National “Shower with a Friend Day” has been proclaimed and recorded as a National Holiday.  This Nationally celebrated day will be celebrated the 5th of February each year.  It was created to inject a bit of humor into the season while also serving to educate people on the benefits of showering in fresh, filtered water.

We’ll leave you with that thought. Pass the soap… we need word cleansing!
